School: Design IED Credits: 180 Language: English
This diploma aims to redefine the relationship between Crafts and Design by learning to look from a contemporary perspective and by adding to the value of tradition the innovation and opportunity offered by new technologies with an artistic vision.
The programme trains students in numerous materials and techniques of artisanal production, which enhance culture and heritage together with digital prototyping techniques, to experiment and innovate, combining the manual and the digital from a contemporary approach.
Duration: 3 years Timetable : Afternoon-Evening Attendance: Blended Qualification: Private
Objectives.
The Diploma in Craft and Design aims to develop the creativity for generating new proposals for objects with value in themselves, accessories, jewellery, textiles, furniture, glass; as well as the renewed recognition of artisan work that is gaining strength and prominence in fashion and decoration firms in the luxury sector, thus creating new artistic languages.
This training programme allows students to experiment with the material: metal, wood, fibres, ceramics, fabrics, etc., students build on the techniques and culture of the Spanish and international artisan tradition, are trained in the IED design process, and learn to produce with digital technology for selfproduction - laser cutting, 3D printing, CNC milling - to create new emotional experiences in line with the contemporary mood.
Methodology.
This diploma is a proposal for methodological innovation in which the traditional subject-based structure is replaced by learning based on experimentation and the student’s curiosity with a liquid and open personalised methodology.
A methodology that encourages creativity on the basis of the proposal of challenges and questions on which the student builds their own journey and identity, in which the teacher is a facilitator of the learning process and the student learns by experimenting, creating and prototyping.
Students will take advantage of the resources offered to them at IED Point Two and they will be monitored on the basis of peer assessment.
Labs.
FINE ARTS LAB
A space to learn how to express ideas and emotions.
A space for creativity and personal expression through the practice of the manual tools of drawing, sculpture, colour…
Students experiment with numerous expression techniques to develop and strengthen their creativity. They are introduced into the fundamentals of ideation and aesthetic criteria to apply to their craft and design projects.
The Fine Arts Lab runs an open practice and experimentation, where each student follows their own and personal creative path.
DIGITAL LAB
The space of digital skills in their natural environment.
The contemporary artisan needs designer-like digital modelling and brand communication skills.
In this space, students are introduced to these specific fields:
The technical representation of the object through three-dimensional modelling.
Brand communication and design, or branding
Students gain the technical know-how for both the digital representation of the object for the use of digital prototyping and self-production techniques, and the communication of the project and branding.
The Digital Lab has a practical and applied statement with a personalized mentoring for the learning path.
DESIGN FABLAB
This happens in the Design FabLab, the space for experimentation and exploration. A teacher facilitator guides the group of students through an open learning process.
In this open and changing space, the group receives inspirational visits and training from professional experts and artisans, who share their knowledge on techniques and materials, culture, sustainable thinking, processes, anthropology, trends. These pills nourish the creativity of the student, who will then work on the exploration, in-depth study and maximum experimentation of the proposed materials.
The aim of this space is for students to acquire knowledge of materials and techniques – artisan and contemporary, manual and digital –, and to nurture their thinking and creativity with the values of a comprehensive – cultural, social, economic and environmental, sustainable development.
Each student will build their path based on their identity, their concerns and fields of interest, which is reflected in the results of the laboratory, as diverse as the participants of the creative experience.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP LAB
The third year is a professionalising course in which take place collaborations with different stakeholders linked to the Craft & Design economic sector.
Students carry out internships with luxury brands, contemporary artisans, and institutions ambassadors of contemporary craft with artistic vision.
